Portfolio Development
Students may earn credits for the knowledge or
skills they have mastered outside the classroom.
Students gain this knowledge from volunteer
work, employment, travel, professional training
and seminars, or other comparable sources.
Students must first meet with an academic
counselor to review portfolio development
policies and procedures. If the academic counselor
approves this option, the student may apply for
the portfolio development seminar.
To apply for a Portfolio Assessment, students
must attend a mandatory Portfolio Development
Seminar before they can submit a portfolio.
This seminar will meet for three two-hour sessions.
• Fees: A $100 non-refundable seminar fee
should be submitted with the seminar
application. This fee must be paid by check or
money order made payable to Johnson & Wales
University. An additional fee of $75 is assessed
once the portfolio has been submitted, whether
or not credits are awarded. This charge will be
applied directly to student’s account.
Students who have successfully submitted
a portfolio may request additional portfolio
reviews in consultation with an academic
counselor. Students will not be required to
repeat the Portfolio Development Seminar.
• Fees: There is a $100 fee for each additional
portfolio submitted, whether or not credits
are awarded. All charges are applied directly
to student’s account.
What courses have the Portfolio Development option? See the Standardized Testing and Prior Learning Assesment brochure.
