Greek Week is a tradition at Johnson & Wales that brings
together the Greek community to promote unity and service while enjoying a
week of fun and exciting activities. Greek Week culminates with the recognition
of all the great accomplishments over the past year. Many events during Greek
Week have become campus traditions occurring year after year. Some of these
events include the Dance Marathon, Greek Olympics, the Greek Talent Show and
the Greek Banquet. A committee of representatives from each Greek organization
decides on what events they want to have to fill in the rest of the week.
These tend to be smaller, such as a drive in movie night or a motivational
speaker.
The 2007 Greek Week was a tremendous success. The Annual Dance Marathon
rose $13,000 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of RI. The fraternities
and sororities adopted two specific children, Erin and Michael, and worked
throughout the year to raise money to grant both children their wish of going
to Disney World. The Dance Marathon was a great time and over 125 danced
the day away! Greek Olympics is also a traditional Greek
Week event. Chapters compete against each other in games such as the egg
toss, word search, tug of war, and relay race. Other events included Battle of the Sexes, Canned Castle Event, and the Concert & Picnic. The Greek
Semi-Formal and Awards Banquet occurs every year and is a great way to honor
Greek organizations and Greek individuals who have stood out and made great
contributions to Greek Life throughout the year.
