We are here every step
of the way for you. Whether you're looking to network or explore career paths with potential employers, or you're now ready to find your first job after JWU, the Career Development Office has a large variety of career services activities and events that you can participate in.
be prepared and get the job
As the job market heats up, more and more employers are using our career events to promote opportunities and pre-screen applicants for co-op and full-time positions. Our career events consist of employer representatives, many of whom are JWU alumni.
who should attend? is this for me?
Our career events are not just for juniors, seniors and alumni. Freshmen can use these events as a chance to explore career opportunities and sophomores are encouraged to start networking early.
- Dress professional.
- Do your company research; know which companies you want to speak with.
- Know the company’s hiring process; many employers require students to fill out an online profile before they will accept a resume.
- Based on your research, prepare at least two questions to ask employers.
- Bring copies of your resume, performance transcript, and portfolio to demonstrate how your skills and qualities will fit the employer’s needs.
- Bring a pen and notebook.
- Introduce yourself; prepare your 30 second sound bite.
- Smile, shake hands, express enthusiasm and breathe!
- If you are truly interested in a company, find out the procedure to secure an interview.
- Follow-up with possible employers with a thank-you letter or email.
Still nervous? Call the Career Development Office to practice interviewing and get help with your resume and doing company research.
