career coaching
At Johnson & Wales, career planning and academic planning come together for preparation that directly connects you to your career goals.  In addition to your career coach, you will be assigned an academic coach who will work with you to fine-tune your aspirations, chart your career path and match your education to your goals.  Your career coach, academic coach and YOU make up your Best Fit Career Team.  Together you will work to build the skills required for Best Fit Employment.

academic coaching
Within the Best Fit Career Management System, each student is assigned to a faculty member within his/her college who serves as the student’s academic coach. These faculty members advise students on potential career choices, and assist their assigned students in making meaningful decisions about course selection, concentrations, experiential education opportunities, part-time work experiences, and other facets of the college experience, in order to optimize students’ prospects to achieve their overall career objectives.  Academic coaches work cooperatively with career coaches from the Career Development Office in providing career management guidance to their assigned students.

resume writing
Would you go to a job interview without taking a shower? Well, sending in a resume that hasn’t been freshened up is just like showing up to an interview in your sweats. Take the time to prepare a professional resume; to increase your chances of an interview.  In our career management courses you will learn what a resume is and when to use it and understand the traditional types of resumes and when to use each type. Johnson & Wales will help you prepare, organize, and present your resume as a marketing tool during your job search.  The Best Fit CMS Online gives step-by-step advice on creating an effective resume.

interview skills
You better buy a second suit, because JWU students who work with Career Development learn just what it takes to prepare for and follow up on interviews.  You will know how to secure a job interview, understand the different types of interviews and how to conduct yourself during an interview.   This can be done through mock interviews and engaging scenarios either one-on-one with your career coach or in class with your career management educator.  Best Fit Career Management System online provides the information needed as well as interview simulations that demonstrate good and poor interviewing techniques.
