Tony Barreiro Named New Director of the
Community Leadership Institute at Denver Campus

BarreiroDENVER — October 1, 2007 — Tony Barreiro appointed director of the Community Leadership Institute. Barreiro began his career in leadership development as an instructor, and later as a senior faculty member with the National Outdoor Leadership School. In 1996, Tony gained experience in the nonprofit and education sectors as a teacher, program director and school administrator in Sante Fe, New Mexico. He also worked as a facilitator with the Institute for Intercultural Community Leadership at Santa Fe Community College (later to become the Leadership Institute). As a trainer and facilitator, Barreiro worked with a wide variety of community and leadership development programs including the American Leadership Forum, AmeriCorps, and Leadership New Mexico.

The Community Leadership Institute at Johnson & Wales was created to provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, knowledge, and a sense of commitment to the community through unique, co-curricular programs. The Institute facilitates these experiences to aid all students in obtaining meaningful careers and becoming successful community leaders. Barreiro’s passion for leadership development and demonstrated professional accomplishments make him the ideal fit for enhancing these programs.
