Lisa James Named Executive Director
of Institutional Advancement for the Denver Campus

DENVER – June 10, 2008 – The Denver Campus of Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is pleased to announce that Lisa James has been appointed executive director of Institutional Advancement for the Denver Campus effective mid-May.

James will be responsible for leading the Institutional Advancement (IA) department which oversees fundraising, marketing, communications, alumni relations and community affairs. She will play an integral role in ensuring the campus meets its advancement goals through an articulated process while effectively managing all components of the IA department. Parallel to the university’s strategic plan, FOCUS 2011, James created a visionary platform that encompasses a refocus effort designed to reach the broadest possible audience. Key to this objective is to increase a variety of mechanisms to introduce the campus to the community in meaningful ways which, in turn, will bring the community to the campus.

James has returned to her home state of Colorado after many years of serving many nonprofit institutions in California. Growing up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she was actively involved in a volunteer capacity while attending William J. Palmer High School. Following her collegiate years, she traveled extensively with arts organizations and was one of the first American theater professionals to enter Albania since World War II for major multi-year collaborations with Balkan artists.

James has been employed by various nationally recognized organizations such as the San Francisco Art Institute, the San Francisco Opera, the Arthritis Foundation of Northern Colorado and Earthjustice. In her former positions, she was instrumental in designing and leading special campaigns to fund organizational operations while cultivating a wide array of donors. Under her leadership, there was an impressive increase in contributions to one of her former employers by 61 percent above the prior year. Her extraordinary portfolio of fundraising and donor development will help JWU progress to the next level of growth for the Denver Campus.
