Safari Tourism Feeds Culinary Adventurers
African cookware, photos take visitors on journey
at North Miami Campus

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — October 10, 2007 — Anyone interested in a vintage safari journey should stop by Johnson & Wales University’s North Miami Campus to see “On Safari,” an exhibit reflecting upon one of the most exotic forms of travel, tourism and the hospitality industry.

This exhibit, which includes African food storage and serving vessels, vintage photos and books, is on loan from the university’s Culinary Arts Museum, based in Providence, R.I.  "On Safari" is on display for a year in the university’s library, 12800 NE 17th Ave, North Miami.on safari

The exhibit features culinary safari relics from the era between the two World Wars, when big game hunting was in its prime and photo safaris were just beginning. A series of unpublished photographs from the 1920s and 30s taken by Ira H. Morse, a retired New England businessman who made no less than 15 trips around the world, are some of the rare images on display.  The exhibition also touches upon wild-game cookery, from a historical perspective to today's current trends.  The safari photography of Martin and Osa Johnson, credited with inventing the wildlife documentary in 1928, is also on display.

"On Safari" is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
