Program Overview
The M.A.T. is a cohort program that begins once each year in September
and follows a prescribed sequence of courses for approximately 18 months.
Curriculum is designed to be efficient and cohesive allowing each course
to build on the foundation of the preceding course work. The sequence
is listed in the table below. The MAT program complies with the No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001 and the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2004.
In keeping with the Core Value of Experientially based learning, the
MAT program has adopted an essential and unique fieldwork component to
the program.
Candidates learn about research-based theories and best practices in University
classrooms, and observe and apply weekly what they have learned in K-12
classrooms. Candidates are required to visit diverse school settings—urban
core, urban ring, suburban and rural—and to observe the development
of students at different educational levels from primary year through
high school.
