What is included in each room for each student? All residence hall rooms come with beds, closets, dresser or drawers, desks and chairs. Each room is equipped with a phone jack, cable outlet, and internet port for each resident. Halls do not have wireless Internet connectivity and wireless routers are not allowed. Additionally, local phone service and voicemail will be provided (students must provide their own telephones) and all rooms will have basic cable service. (upgrading cable service is not available).
Will the residence halls be co-educational? Yes. The residence halls are coeducational by floor, but rooms are gender specific.
Are laundry services available in the residence halls? Yes. For your convenience, each hall has its own laundry room. Washing machines and dryers are paid for through use of a card, rather than coins. Cards can be purchased, and additional money added in the IKON Copy and Mail Center on the ground floor of the Student Union.
What are the dimensions and set up of the rooms?
Can I make changes to my meal plan? There is an Optional Weekend Meal Plan, providing meals Brunch and dinner Friday-Sunday at a cost of $987 per academic year. Changes to the weekend meal plan are only allowed through the eighth day of classes.
Do I need personal property insurance? We strongly urge you to obtain personal property insurance coverage under your own/your parents'/your guardian's homeowner's insurance. Johnson & Wales University is not responsible for damages to or loss of your private property. We suggest looking at nssinc.com if you need to secure property insurance while on-campus.
Do the residence halls close for the holiday break? Yes. The halls will close on Friday, December 21, 2007 at noon and reopen on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 9:00am. Students are not permitted to remain in the residence halls during this time. All students who require housing during the 2007-2008 winter break must make their own accommodations.
Is my housing contract for 12 months? Your contract begins when the buildings officially open in September and concludes in May with Graduation. Once your contract is signed, it is valid through May of the following year. Occupancy is for nine months, September to May.
Can the University help me with off-campus housing?
The University supports the on-campus experience as students who live on
campus do better academically, and are more likely to persist to graduation,
therefore, the University does not provide any off-campus housing assistance.
What is the move-in deadline? Any student who does not occupy their assigned room by the last day of Check-In will forfeit that specific housing assignment unless a written request providing sufficient cause for late move-in has been previously submitted to and approved by the Coordinator of Housing Operations. Students who arrive after the move-in deadline will be placed in any available space.
How are the residence halls accessed? Entrance to the residence halls are through a hand scanning system, and entrance to specific rooms are via key. Only students who live in a particular hall have access to that hall. Students should never lend their key to anyone.
May I bring a microwave/refrigerator? Students are not permitted to bring their own microwaves or fridges. However, students will have the opportunity to lease a micro-fridge through our vendor, Colorado Collegiate Rentals (1-877-449-6422). Information about these will be included with the housing assignment mailed in July.
