Department of Economics Providence Campus
The Department of Economics is committed to providing students with a
contemporary and relevant economics education to better prepare them for
careers in the world of global business.
In addition to courses in principles of macroeconomics and principles
of microeconomics which virtually all students take, the department offers
other courses for students with a variety of interests. These courses
include economic geography, labor economics, and comparative economic
systems. In addition, faculty in the economics department teach several
international business courses which have significant economics content.
These courses are seminar on the european union and foreign area studies.
Beyond
offering courses enhancing students' knowledge of business and the economy
in general, the department offers several programs to enrich students'
educational experiences. One of these programs is the distinguished visiting
economist series of presentations, one each term, which will be open to
all students but will be directed at students enrolled in economics courses.
Additional functions of the Department of Economics include offering
seminars and workshops on contemporary economics topics, making presentations
to local businesses, and developing professional relationships with local,
state and federal government agencies.
The overall plan is to provide students with a variety of opportunities
to understand the economy and the role that businesses and government
agencies play in the economy.
