Donating time and skills to a local nonprofit agency is a great way to help those in need and to feel good in the process. But the benefits of community service don't end there. JWU is a Career University, so it's important to also recognize the important role community involvement can play in your career development plans.
As you invest yourself and your resources in addressing community needs, you will be learning to think critically, solve problems, assess needs, develop resources, build teams, hone communications skills and understand the interdependence of the new global marketplace. All of these community leadership skills will make you more valuable to prospective employers and more capable of mastering any position you acquire in your industry.
The Feinstein Center can help you find volunteer opportunities in your area of interest. If you are interested in short-term or one-time events, simply sign up for the volunteer opportunities newsletter. If you are interested in an on-going commitment, please call the Feinstein Center to set up an appointment to meet with the volunteer coordinator.

- What career skills, experiences, interests do your members have?
- What community agencies need those skills?
listen to your members.
- What are you interested in, excited about, have a personal stake in?
- What are your limitations in terms of time, commitment level, transportation, etc.?

- Research the agency and its volunteer needs.
details, details, details!

- Make sure you keep your commitments — the agencies depend on you!
