At JWU, community leadership means "strategically using personal and institutional resources to address community needs." Making the best possible link between your skills and interests and the needs around you will result in maximum community impact and maximum personal satisfaction!

Working in collaboration with the Center for Leadership Studies, Student Activities, Residential Life, National Student Organizations and various other departments across campus, the Feinstein Center seeks to engage students and staff in "community leadership" by providing opportunities to apply leadership skills and principles to real-life community settings.

leadershipStudents receive training in community leadership through coursework in Community Service-Learning and course-related service at nonprofit agencies, a required Foundations of Leadership Studies course (LEAD2001), co-curricular training available through the Feinstein Center, volunteer opportunities and enrichment programming. Students can also participate in Federal Off-Campus Community Service Work Study placements through the Student Employment program.

The University seeks to model community leadership as an institution, by taking an active role in developing collaborative civic initiatives to link university resources with community needs. Community leadership is encouraged among faculty, staff, administration and departments through targeted training, service experiences and partnering relationships in the community.
